The Space Between
May 29, 2002
I’m sitting here watching “Dark Blue World” (subtitled Czech WWII drama) when my cell phone rings. Caller ID says “Jennifer Cell,” which is odd; she hasn’t called in months.
I say “Hello,” and hear only Dave Matthews, live, breaking into chorus…
“The space between what’s wrong and right / Is where you’ll find me waiting for you…”
I hang on the line, smiling, happy, listening to the crowd, to his soaring, moving melody — but nary a word from Jennifer — until the signal is lost.
